In 2015, approximately 2.2 million Hispanics\/Latinos in the United States reported having asthma, and Puerto Rican Americans have almost three times the asthma rate of the overall Hispanic population. African American women are 20 percent more likely to have asthma than non-Hispanic whites. Asthma disproportionately affects minorities and people living below the poverty line. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is Asthma? <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Asthma is a chronic lung disease that affects the lungs airways. There are tubes called bronchioles that are supposed to be open and clear, but they become inflamed and close up when you have asthma. Asthma affects people of all ages but is usually diagnosed as a child. Severe asthma can result in emergency room visits, hospitalization, or can be fatal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Cigarettes\/Tabaco <\/li>
    • Sometimes can be exercise-induced<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n
